Stuart Maloy

Materials scientist focused on understanding and developing materials for use in extreme environments. Significant experience in investigating the effects of high energy proton and neutron irradiation on the mechanical properties and microstructures in metals and nitride fuels. Additional experience testing the high temperature mechanical properties (up to 1600 C) of materials such as Ti48Al2Cr2Nb, MoSi2, NbSi2, TaSi2, NiAl and Inconel 718. Experienced in characterizing materials after testing using transmission electron microscopy for analyzing defects such as dislocations, twins and second phases, using high resolution electron microscopy to characterize defects at an atomic level and using techniques in X-ray diffraction for orienting single crystals and determining volume fractions of phases present. An excellent speaker and communicator with extensive leadership experience, technical publications and presentations.
